Your day, read aloud
How to Make Your iPhone Read Your Day Out Loud (3 Ways)
Ask Siri "What's on my calendar today?" for a one-off readout, build a Shortcuts automation that speaks your weather and events when your alarm stops, or use a daily briefing app such as Brifco that prepares a spoken summary of your calendar, weather and news at a set time. Siri is instant, Shortcuts is free but fiddly, and an app does it all automatically.
You wake up, grab your phone, and open four apps to find out what today looks like: weather, calendar, maybe traffic, and a news app you will scroll for too long. Your iPhone already knows all of this. Here is how to make it just tell you.
Method 1: Ask Siri (instant, nothing to set up)
Say "Hey Siri, what's on my calendar today?" and Siri reads your events. Follow with "What's the weather today?"
- Good for: a quick check, any time of day.
- Limits: you ask every time, one question at a time, and the answers never connect ("you have an offsite at 2, and it will rain then").
Method 2: A Shortcuts automation that speaks when your alarm stops (free, about 10 minutes)
The Shortcuts app can run an automation when you stop an alarm (Apple Support) and read text aloud with the Speak Text action.
- Open Shortcuts → Automation → + → Alarm → Is Stopped, and pick your wake-up alarm.
- Choose Run Immediately so it does not ask for confirmation.
- Add Get Current Weather.
- Add Find Calendar Events where Start Date is today, sorted by start date.
- Add a Text action that combines them, for example: Good morning. It's [Current Weather]. Today you have: [Calendar Events].
- Add Speak Text with that text as input. Pick a voice and rate.
- Stop your alarm to test it.
- Good for: people who like tinkering and want it free.
- Limits: it reads raw event titles, not a summary. Google and Outlook calendars have to be added to the iPhone Calendar app first. Adding news means extra actions, and nothing connects the weather, your meetings and your travel time.
Action names can differ slightly between iOS versions.
Method 3: A daily briefing app (automatic)
A briefing app does the combining for you: it reads your calendar and the weather, picks news on your topics, writes a short script and reads it to you at the time you choose.
In Brifco, you set the time and days (say 6:45 on weekdays), choose topics and outlets, a voice and a host style, and how long the news part should be (2 to 4 minutes). When the show is ready, you get a notification. It connects the pieces, for example the weather where your 3 pm meeting is, and whether there is a jam on your way to work. Brifco reads your calendar read-only and never reads your email.
Brifco reads your day to you in a few minutes: calendar, weather, commute and your news. Now on the App Store.
Download on the App Store- Good for: busy mornings, commutes, anyone who wants to stop opening five apps.
- Limits: a subscription after the free trial, and AI-written text can make mistakes, so every story links its source.

Frequently asked questions
Can Siri read my calendar automatically every morning?
Not on its own. You need a Shortcuts automation or a daily briefing app such as Brifco.
Why doesn't my Shortcuts automation speak?
Usually the automation is set to ask before running, or Speak Text has no input. Check that Run Immediately is selected and that the Text action feeds into Speak Text.
Does this work with Google Calendar or Outlook?
Yes, if the account is added in Settings so its events appear in the iPhone Calendar app.
Can my iPhone read me the news too?
Siri can play a news podcast, but not a summary of topics you choose. A briefing app is the simplest way.
Hear your day instead of reading it
Brifco turns your calendar, weather, commute and the news you choose into a short spoken show, ready at the time you set. It’s on the App Store now, with a 3-day free trial.
